Gitxsan Hereditary Chiefs are the stewards of the Gitxsan Laxyip (traditional lands) where we have lived since time immemorial. We seek safety, food security, true justice and harmony on our lands and for our people.
Industry, rather than negotiating access to our lands with our Chiefs instead turn to the BC Supreme Court to gain illegal access to our lands in order to steal our resources. If Gitxsan try to enforce NO TRESPASS on our lands by big corporations with injunctions we are met with extreme force and injustice. This comes in the form of the only militarized RCMP unit in Canada being deployed to terrorize our people into submission.
We have tried to negotiate with the government and large industry to no avail. We have tried to plan for our own safety on our lands with the RCMP to no avail. This can not stand. Here are a few examples that document our struggle.
